La era de la globalización ha favorecido las migraciones internacionales. Los estudios actuales al respecto han comenzado a implementar el enfoque del transnacionalismo. Así, se está investigando no solo la influencia de los migrantes sobre el lugar de destino, sino también las relaciones que se producen a distancia con el lugar de origen. En este sentido, la familia se ha convertido en el eje principal de las investigaciones sobre migraciones y transnacionalismo. Por ende, en este estudio se ha realizado una revisión bibliográfica sistemática con el objetivo de analizar el estado de la cuestión con respecto a las familias desde el enfoque del transnacionalismo. Los resultados han sido divididos en dos bloques temáticos: “Bloque 1. Reflexiones en torno a la noción de transnacionalismo: un concepto amplio vinculado a la migración” y “Bloque 2. La familia transnacional: una aproximación a su conceptualización”. Se concluye que el transnacionalismo constituye un enfoque especialmente relevante en el estudio de las migraciones internacionales. No obstante, la familia transnacional ha sido representada desde los parámetros del modelo de familia tradicional y en concordancia con los roles de género vigentes. Se plantea la necesidad de elaborar investigaciones con una perspectiva más amplia de la realidad social que versen sobre esta temática. Este artículo tiene el afán de constituirse como una guía de asesoramiento para los interventores sociales (especialmente para los trabajadores sociales) en su praxis con el colectivo de personas inmigrantes y, concretamente, con las familias transnacionales.
